Google.org expands range of activities

In addition to alternative energy, Google.org is also now funding poverty alleviation, climate change and health projects. The Internet giant is partnering with five companies to invest USD25 million in various information technology projects in Southeast Asia and Africa. “We want to take the advantages of Silicon Valley to the Rift Valley,” said Google.org executive director Larry Brilliant. Critics, however, are not yet ready to change their stance on the multi-billion-dollar company, fearing that Google’s efforts are nothing more than a mere publicity stunt.
