The partnership of Grameen Bank and yoghurt maker Danone in Bangladesh is an example of a social business: The goal is for the two companies to recoup the investment made while producing and distributing an enriched yoghurt with added micro-nutrients, and then allow the business to continue locally. Grameen Bank founder Muhammad Yunus spearheaded the initiative because he saw a lack of sufficient nutrients in the diet of poor children, says Shadab Mahmud, project manager at Grameen Health.
