Haitians Asking US to ‘Take Over’

The prominent role played by the U.S. military and civilians is creating high expectations among Haitians, many of whom are even asking the U.S. to “take over,” the Washington Post reports. Several locals have expressed lack of faith in their government and have asked the U.S. to “take care of us.”

However, U.S. officials have clarified that the U.S. is not responsible for rebuilding Haiti. Col. Rick Kaiser, an engineer of the U.S. army, said he and his team have begun repairing critical infrastructure in Haiti but emphasized that reconstruction is not their mission.
