Haiti’s public health system needs a significant overhaul in order to give Haitians affordable and sustainable health care, Rebecca Harrington wrote on Huffington Post’s “Rebuilding Haiti” blog. Harrington said the Haitian government and international community should prioritize intervention measures targeting malaria prevention, malnutrition, hygiene and sanitation in its short- and long-term plans. Donors should also work to meet the needs specified by the United Nations flash appeal for Haiti and plan a long-term reform for the country’s health care system, Harrington added.
