The Inter-American Development Bank lends billions of dollars a year in Latin America and the Caribbean. It is one of the largest — and the oldest — sources of finance for social, economic and institutional development in the region.
In 2022, IDB approved over 96 loans worth $12.7 billion in project financing, of which $10.7 billion has already been disbursed. The funding went to multiple sectors – water and sanitation, state reforms, and social investment.
IDB allocates its money through concessional financing, grants, loans and guarantees. These are offered according to the countries’ economies. Concessional financing and grants are for lower-income countries, while flexible loans are tailored to the borrower’s specific needs, through their IDB Invest program for the private sector, and IDB Lab for inclusive growth.
