Devex Early Intelligence learned from an official at the U.N. International Fund for Agricultural Development that the plans to begin implementing a value chains development program this June is on hold for now.
This is due to the coup last August 2008 where General Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz ousted President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi.
The country will conduct its elections next month. The IFAD representative said that the agency is waiting on the results and should all go smoothly, the program to support value-adding activities for vegetable, dates, non-timber forest products and livestock will be presented to the board for approval this coming September.
