IMF Opens 2 Offices in Caribbean

The International Monetary Fund is growing its presence in the Caribbean with the opening of two new representative offices: one in Jamaica and another in Antigua and Barbuda.

St. Lucia native Gene Leon will head the Jamaica representative office. He has been working at the fund for 13 years, and until his appointment as senior resident representative in Jamaica, Leon was serving in IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department.

The resident representative office in Antigua and Barbuda will act as a regional center serving IMF member countries in the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union. It will have Wendell Samuel from St. Vincent and the Grenadines as its leader. Samuel has been with the fund’s Western Hemisphere Department since 2001.
