The Indian government appealed for USD180.7 million in aid from the World Bank to help build 21,000 houses for some 100,000 people living in the tsunami-devastated state of Tamil Nadu. “Talks with the World Bank are in an advanced stage,” revealed Sakthikanta Das, commissioner of revenue administration. “Final negotiations with them are expected any time, and we hope the bank would accord sanction in a month.” (“WB funds to help shelter 1 lakh tsunami-hit people” - Times of India, Sept. 1, 2008)
