World Vision has begun distributing blankets and water containers to Chilean earthquake survivors living in communities just outside the capital city of Santiago. The group is planning to purchase and distribute water tanks, purification tablets, hygiene kits, lanterns, blankets and cooking items over the next few days. World Vision also has a relief and logistic team on the group helping to assess the extent of the damage caused by the massive earthquake.
Meanwhile, Oxfam America sent a five-member team to assist the government in assessing and responding to the most immediate needs of earthquake survivors.
Other global organizations have also begun sending aid and response teams to the country. The Red Cross and several United Nations agencies explained that response to the Chile earthquake would be different from operations in Haiti, The Associated Press reports.
