The International Organization for Migration has launched a program aiming to erase the stigma of HIV in Somalia through wider awareness among vulnerable populations in the country, the agency said in a news release.
The new program, part of a USD1.7 million initiative funded by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria through UNICEF, seeks to educate Somalians about AIDS in the hope of stopping its spread and easing the social stigma on those afflicted with the deadly disease.
IOM said the program will cover areas of transit “with increased risk behavior,” among them ports, border stops and truck stops.
