Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has fired the country’s foreign minister in a move that The New York Time says surprised many in Tehran, including the state-run media. NYT adds that the president’s dismissal of Manouchehr Mottaki through a presidential order reflected a strengthening of Ahmajinejad’s power. Mottaki was in Senegal for an official trip when the order was issued and was not able to promptly react to the news, NYT says.
