Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki will not seek a third term in 2014, according to one of his advisers. The prime minister also wants to amend the country’s constitution to limit prime ministers to two terms, Ali al-Moussawi told The Associated Press Feb. 5. Al-Maliki believes “eight years is enough for him” and would step down to avoid converting Iraq into a dictatorship, the adviser added. The decision may be an attempt to prevent Egypt- or Tunisia-style uprisings in Iraq, AP notes.
