Ireland should ring-fence and keep its foreign aid budget for fighting hunger at its current level, according to the country’s special envoy for hunger.

“I believe that such a decision would send a further very strong message of our intention to maintain our position as a leader in the fight against hunger,” Kevin Farrell explained, according to the Irish Times.

Farrell also urged the Irish government to enhance its relationship with the U.S. in the global anti-hunger campaign.

Meanwhile, Irish Minister of State for Overseas Development Peter Power noted that the funding for initiatives toward addressing hunger in developing countries had “virtually been ring-fenced.”
