Islamic Relief Worldwide, a major international humanitarian aid and development charity based in the United Kingdom, appointed Iftikhar Shaheen as its new CEO on Monday.
Shaheen is set to inherit an organization that has expanded over the last year. It is one of the world’s largest faith-based humanitarian organizations in the world and works across 39 countries.
It recorded record levels of income and spending in 2024, largely driven by escalating humanitarian crises across Gaza, Sudan, Yemen, and Afghanistan. Its total expenditure hit £303.8 million ($410 million), up from £235 million in 2023. Its income also hit a record level of £275.6 million in the 2024 financial year, its highest ever, and almost doubled in the last five years.
