Jacques Chirac repeated his call. . .

Jacques Chirac repeated his call to tax the airline industry as a way for the international community to help Africa. During his recent visit to Japan, the French president said that the money raised from the "international solidarity tax" will rescue three million Africans from the clutches of death due to AIDS and other diseases. Chirac — who initially made the suggestion last January at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland — promised to bring up the issue at the G8 conference in July and during the United Nations summit this September in New York.
