Japan, ADB Expand Bangladesh Rural Development Project

Bangladesh is expected to receive USD1.16 million worth of grants for the second phase of a project that seeks to improve water resource management and promote rural development in the country’s Chittagong Hill Tracts region, the New Nation reports. Japan will provide the money through the multidonor Water Financing Partnership Facility and Japan Special Fund, which are both administered by the Asian Development Bank. ADB will also provide technical assistance, including research and skills development training, for the project. The first phase of the Chittagong Hill Tracts rural development project focused on road construction and was completed in 2009.
