Japan Backs Pakistan's Sewerage, Water Projects

The Japan International Cooperation Agency is granting 1.22 billion yen (USD14 million) to help improve the sewerage and drainage system as well as provide potable water supply in Pakistan.

The money will help to rehabilitate 16 drainage pumps and install two new trash rake systems in Lahore. It will also be used to help provide safe drinking water in Faisalabad.

The funding forms part of the USD1 billion pledged by Japan for Pakistan at a donors’ conference in Tokyo in April 2009, Daily Times reports.
