John Hewko: Rotary International's New General Secretary

By Ma. Rizza Leonzon // 13 January 2011

Rotary International has named John Hewko as its new general secretary. He will assume office on July 1.

Hewko will manage more than 600 employees of Rotary International and its charitable arm, the Rotary Foundation. He previously served as vice president at the Millennium Challenge Corp. and as partner with international law firm Baker & McKenzie.

According to a Rotary press release, Hewko is expected to have a lead role in executing the organization’s recently revised strategic plan, which calls for Rotary’s expanded engagement in the areas of maternal and child health, water and sanitation, disease prevention and treatment, basic education and literacy, economic and community development, as well as peace studies and conflict prevention and resolution.
