Jordan expects to sign a USD275 million compact with the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corp. in October, Jafar Hassan, Jordan’s minister of planning and international cooperation, said according to the Jordan Times.

As Devex reported, the MCC’s planned contract for Jordan focuses on the water sector. Its target area will be the governorate of Zarqa, one of the poorest areas in the country and its second largest city in terms of population.

Hassan shared additional details of the compact. He told Jordan Times it would include support to improve Zarqa’s sewage system, reduce the percentage of water loss in the area and improve the quality of treated water.
