The private sector has a role to play in global development, but not in the areas of health and education, according to Intermon Oxfam Executive Director Jose Maria Vera.
“We define these [health and education] as free and public,” Vera told Pete Troilo, director of global advisory and analysis at Devex, during the 2012 European Development Days.
Intermon Oxfam has had good experiences partnering with the private sector, Vera acknowledged. But he has concerns about divergent goals between aid and corporate communities on economic growth.
Watch the conversation between Vera and Troilo on the private sector’s role in development, part of a series of conversations we video-taped with global development leaders in the center of the action at last week’s EDD.
