The frequent assault of the Lord’s Resistance Army in the Central African Republic is a major hindrance in the smooth flow of aid delivery in the country, according to a report from Enough.
On May 6, the rebel group attacked a truck hired by the World Food Program in Mbomou prefecture, which was supposed to deliver food to internally displaced people. A similar incident took place April 3, when the rebels destroyed a commercial truck, killing eight people. A truck of an Italian nonprofit faced similar fate on Sept. 21, 2009.
Formed in 1987, LRA is a militant group based in northern Uganda. It is currently engaged in an armed rebellion in Sudan, the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and is classified as a terrorist organization by the United States.
