The Luxembourg government has launched a project that aims to help speed up global disaster and humanitarian response.

Under a joint undertaking with HITEC Luxembourg S.A. and SES Astra TechCom S.A., the Luxembourg government will help to improve information and communication technology, global satellite coverage and air logistics in the disaster and humanitarian response sector.

The project, dubbed emergency.lu, will provide a permanent network infrastructure extension for humanitarian work in crisis situations. It will also offer a globally deployable and reliable communication system that will support disaster relief and humanitarian operations.

The project will be integrated into existing communications infrastructure used by United Nations agencies in their humanitarian work.
