Make your mark: Choosing the right global development graduate program

When it comes to jobs in global development, an advanced degree is no longer just a bonus — in most cases it is a requirement. In this exclusive careers webinar, Alan Robbins, partner and head of global partnerships with Devex, talks us through a study of the top 10 degrees for careers in global development, to help you better understand your higher education options.

When it comes to global development, an advanced degree is no longer just a bonus but is, in most cases, a requirement for the job. The demand for specialized skills and knowledge is impacting hiring decisions in global development and, as a result, many professionals from the sector are considering going back to school to get the qualifications that could advance their career. Increasing interest in the sector means that more schools are offering courses and degrees related to global development, but with so many to choose from it can be difficult to know which type of degree will fulfill your educational and professional goals. That’s why, earlier this year, Devex spoke with recruiters and professionals from the development community to find out their perceptions of the top degrees. In this exclusive webinar, Alan Robbins, partner and head of global partnerships with Devex, shares insights from our study of over 1,500 graduate degree holders. “If you are considering getting a degree, the data from people that have it suggests it’s a good idea,” he shared. “91 percent of the people that we surveyed think their degree is worth the investment of time and money. And 82 percent feel that their postgraduate degree was essential in advancing their development career,” he added and “they feel that beyond the time and money it was critical to what they are doing today.” Whether you are considering a master of business administration, a master of public health, or masters in agriculture sciences or engineering, Robbins talks us through the top 10 degrees for a career in global development, including which degrees will lead you to the highest compensation levels, best work-life balance and overall job satisfaction.
