Trump withdraws, defunds dozens of international orgs and treaties

President Donald Trump ordered the U.S. to leave 66 international entities, including 31 at the U.N., cutting funding deemed contrary to U.S. interests — a move that alarmed allies and deepened Washington’s retreat from multilateralism.

President Donald Trump ordered the United States withdrawal from 66 international organizations, including 31 United Nations entities that “no longer serve American interests,” according to a White House fact sheet issued late Wednesday afternoon. The White House also announced the decision on X, formerly Twitter.

Trump on Wednesday signed a “presidential memorandum” instructing all U.S. government agencies and departments to “cease participating in and funding 35 non-United Nations (UN) organizations and 31 UN entities that operate contrary to U.S. national interests, security, economic prosperity, or sovereignty.”

“These withdrawals will end American taxpayer funding and involvement in entities that advance globalist agendas over U.S. priorities,” the statement said.
