Meaning in action: IFRC's One Billion Coalition for Resilience

What will it take to make people less vulnerable to the devastating effects of disaster-related events while improving their access to sanitation, clean water, and health care for a better quality of life?

In this interview on the sidelines of the 32nd Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva, Switzerland, Undersecretary General for Programs and Operations of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Garry Conille explained that putting resilience in action at a community and individual level is central in addressing this vulnerability in the long-term.

By scaling up community and civic action to empower and strengthen individual and household capacity to become resilient, the former prime minister of Haiti told Devex associate editor Richard Jones how development stakeholders — for instance through IFRC’s One Billion Coalition for Resilience — can implement much more effective programs to address the unique vulnerabilities and risk that beset their communities.
