Microentrepreneurs can be global entrepreneurs, too

Brian Bieron, eBay’s senior director for global public policy, talks with Devex President Raj Kumar about his company’s campaign to promote sustainable small business development through the power of the Internet.

    By Devex Editor // 23 October 2012

The Internet has made the world smaller: It allows people and organizations to connect with each other regardless of where they are.

That principle drives eBay’s campaign to promote sustainable small business development. Talking with Devex President Raj Kumar at the 2012 European Development Days, Brian Bieron, the company’s senior director for global public policy, argued that the Internet enables local retailers with a small workforce to reach any customer around the globe, and this subsequently sustains economic development at the local level.

Bieron also discussed what eBay is doing to help overcome barriers for local, small businesses to participate in global commerce.

An official media partner of EDD12, Devex was in Brussels to talk with the movers and shakers in international development. We video-taped conversations with more than 50 decision makers and thought leaders from the private, nonprofit and public sectors on hot-button issues in humanitarian relief, global health, social responsibility and international development.
