United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro is urging wealthy nations to live up to their financial commitments for poor countries to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

“The combination of sound national development strategies, investment in human capital and increased international support can lead to remarkable progress,” Migiro said during a special high-level meeting on achieving internationally agreed development goals.

The meeting aims to mobilize action and resources before the MDG summit slated in September, which will be hosted by U.N chief Ban Ki-moon in a bid to speed up efforts to attain the eight development targets by 2015.
