UNICEF’s new executive director, Tony Lake, is expected to underscore Japan’s strong support for the protection of children’s rights during his two-day visit to the Asian nation.

Japan is among UNICEF’s top 10 government donors, while Japanese private donations amount to more than what the agency receives from citizens of any other country.

Lake will meet Sadako Ogata, the chief of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, to discuss joint efforts to promote children’s issues.
