Together with the Malawian government, Action Aid and other non-governmental organizations have spearheaded a new initiative that hopes to reduce hunger in the African state. Through the Hunger Free campaign, the NGOs and the Malawi government hope to fight off hunger in problematic areas such as Kasungu, Nsanje, Chikwawa, and Karonga in northern Malawi. The government has also given the thumbs up to the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy in an effort to cut poverty and hunger in half by 2015.
