The Asian Development Bank will not finance any development project that may adversely affect the Adivasi people of Bangladesh, The Daily Star reports.
Some Adivasi people claim that ADB-backed projects such as those in Fulbari and Madhupur National Park have displaced indigenous people from their own land.
ADB team leader Roger Plant said that in the future, social assessment must be carried out before commencing any project that may affect the Adivasi people. He added that if a project is found to have a negative impact on the Adivasi people, it will not secure any funding from ADB.
