Sultan Qaboos-bin reshuffled his Cabinet Feb. 26 amid calls from protesters for political reform and jobs, Reuters reports. The leader replaced six ministers in an attempt to quell the demonstrations, which are a rare occurrence in Oman.

Street protests in the country took a violent turn Feb. 27 after security forces fired rubber bullets and tear gas into the crowd. At least one person was killed in the incident, The Wall Street Journal says.
