ONE, the Washington-based global advocacy organization, has announced that Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli, a Nigerian American expert on food systems and entrepreneurship, will serve as its new president and CEO. When she assumes that role on April 2, Nwuneli will become ONE’s first African-born leader.
She arrives as ONE marks its 20th anniversary — and in the midst of an organization-wide strategic shift aimed at elevating African voices in global development policy. In the wake of a “strategic review,” ONE told employees last month that it is eliminating roughly 50 positions — about 30% of its staff.
Nwuneli will lead ONE’s efforts to better connect African countries to financing sources and increase their agency, the organization said.
