    Opinion: A 9-point checklist for NGOs in Africa to boost cybersecurity

    NGOs must adopt a multifaceted approach to cybersecurity, tailored to the unique circumstances of their mission-driven work.

    For NGOs and organizations in the development space, ensuring robust cybersecurity is not just a matter of operational efficiency but a fundamental aspect of safeguarding sensitive data and maintaining trust.

    The COVID-19 pandemic has irrevocably altered the landscape of work globally, ushering in an era where remote work is no longer a temporary fix but a permanent fixture. This shift has necessitated a profound reevaluation of security strategies to protect distributed workforces, especially organizations that play a pivotal role in humanitarian efforts and development.

    The transition to remote work has been rapid and, in many cases, unplanned. Remote work has grown dramatically in Africa (albeit unevenly). Many NGOs have adapted to this change, integrating remote work as a standard practice and there are considerations for management and leadership that can ensure a more successful future “hybrid” workplace setup.
