This year, the United Nations marks the 20th anniversary of its Peacebuilding Architecture, a framework created to help countries rebuild after war and sustain peace over the long run.
The architecture recognizes that peace is more than the mere absence of violence — it is a perpetual project built on expanding livelihood opportunities, inclusive governance, and respect for the rights and dignity of all.
But it is hard to feel celebratory. This anniversary arrives in the shadow of a severely worsening global security landscape.
