A new tool has launched today to track progress on the world’s 30x30 land and water conservation goals — it is free and available to all, to allow data-informed resource allocation and equity in biodiversity conservation efforts.
Access to data is key in the fight against our planet’s accelerating extinction crisis and for the success of conservation efforts. Chief among these is the “30x30” initiative — a landmark commitment made by world leaders in 2022 to protect and conserve at least 30% of the planet’s land, ocean, and freshwater by 2030.
Protecting biodiversity is crucial to safeguarding the vast array of life on our planet, as well as humanity’s health and well-being. More than half the global economy is moderately or highly dependent on nature while nature loss has been identified as one of the top three risks facing society in the next decade.
