At a press conference in Madrid, Palestinian Finance Minister Salam Fayed told that Palestinians intend to ask the international community for yearly donations of $1.5 billion until 2007. According to the former World Bank official, the four-year fighting between Palestinians and Israelis left 40 percent of the population without jobs, forcing over half of the people to live below poverty line. Fayed, who signed economic and financial agreements in Spain?s capital city, said that the government plans to generate 40,000 jobs annually and raise living standards of Palestinians who suffered during the conflict.
