The European Commission has given Poland until 12 September to come up with salvage plans for two Baltic shipyards at Szczecin and Gdynia. The commission says the shipyards have received illegal state aid worth 1.8 billion euros since 2002. The EC says that unless the Polish government can prove it was acting properly, it will have to recover the money from the shipyards. However, such a move would lead to the shipyards’ bankruptcy.
