Polio eradication secures nearly $2B in pledges at Abu Dhabi summit

The Global Polio Eradication Initiative received more than $1.8 billion in pledges from donor governments and private foundations at a pledging event held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The total includes both previously announced pledges and contributions, as well as $1.2 billion in new commitments — including $800 million from the Gates Foundation and $140 million from the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity, which hosted Monday’s pledging event.

This brings the Gates Foundation’s total commitment to GPEI for 2026–2029 to $1.2 billion.
