Political vision key to sound natural resources management

Sound natural resources management starts with a good political system and visionary leaders, according to a top development policy expert.

Further steps are establishing the right investment climate and an enabling environment for good governance in this sector to thrive, Femke Brouwer, parliamentary capacity development program officer at the Natural Resource Governance Institute, told Devex Associate Editor Richard Jones in this video interview on the sidelines of the Annual Democracy Forum 2014 in Gaborone, Botswana.

Brouwer added that countries rich in natural resources are seldom equally rich in good governance and democracy — and investors should be fully aware of this.
