Renewable energy use in Portugal is more than double the European Union average, according to Eurostat, the EU’s statistical research center. Of Portugal’s total energy consumption in 2008, 23.2 percent came from clean sources. Portugal seeks to scale up its clean energy use to 31 percent by 2020, IPS reports.
