U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator Rajiv Shah and U.K. Secretary of State for International Development Andrew Mitchell met in Washington June 25. Shah and Mitchell discussed their shared priorities in agriculture, health, aid effectiveness and renewed commitment to accountability and transparency. The importance of the U.N. Millennium Development Goals and the U.N.’s MDG summit in September was also highlighted in the meeting.

Mitchell’s visit to Washington D.C. on June 25 was his first official trip to the U.S. as international development secretary. While in Washington, Mitchell also spoke at the Carnegie Endowment, where he discussed the role of women in development.
