In a new report, the Center for Global Development, a Washington think tank, called for more oversight on grants provided by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. The fund’s board is set to select the person who will replace outgoing executive director Richard Feachem. The roster of finalists includes former Norwegian international development minister Hilde Johnson, French HIV/AIDS ambassador Michel Kazatchkine, U.S. Republican Representative Jim Kolbe, MTV Networks International president Bill Roedy and UNAIDS chief Michel Sidibe. The new Global Fund chief “must be really focusing on grants that are in trouble or could be in trouble,” according to Bernard Rivers, one of the report’s authors.
