    Scoop: State Department ends support for some food security programs

    The decision halts funding for initiatives that build resilience in chronically food-insecure regions — known as resilience food security activities or nonemergency food aid — which are designed to reduce chronic hunger and prevent future emergencies.

    The day before U.S. Thanksgiving, the emails began hitting inboxes across the world.

    Organizations implementing programs to build resilience in chronically food-insecure regions —  a small but critical piece of the U.S. government’s Food for Peace initiative — would be losing their funding.

    “This email notifies you that the Department of State does not intend to obligate any additional incremental funding for future activities,” read one of those emails, which was sent to organizations last week. “We appreciate the hard work you and your team have dedicated to this activity.”
