This year marks the end of the Swedish government’s support to water and sanitation and energy projects in Uganda. This was indicated in the 2009-2013 strategy for development cooperation.
Initially, the annual country allocation was set at $36.9 million. But Devex Early Intelligence learned from an agency official that the Swedish government has decided to cut the budget to $32.9 million. She said there are no plans to scale up health-related aid.
For the remaining years of the strategy period, Sweden will continue its contribution to Uganda’s health sector through budget support focused on capacity development and HIV/AIDS. It will also fund activities to promote democratic governance, private sector development and trade, particularly agribusiness, and research support to the Makerere University.
