The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero, a group of multilateral development banks, and other donors will launch a new coalition aimed at improving climate-related technical assistance for financial institutions in emerging markets and developing economies.
Michael Bloomberg, the United Nations secretary-general’s special envoy on climate ambition, will announce the new Global Capacity Building Coalition on Friday at the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Dubai and is funding the effort to the tune of several million dollars.
There are various technical assistance programs and online training that could help banks in these countries to develop climate plans, make net zero emissions commitments, and boost their climate lending but the institutions that need them don’t always know where to look. And the donors interested in boosting these capabilities don’t always coordinate with, understand, or leverage each other's efforts.
