Community dialogue is a catalyst for change — especially when it comes to challenging stigmas, raising awareness, and seeking solutions toward the elimination of neglected tropical diseases, or NTDs.
This ethos is also what inspires “The African Power Hour” — a podcast by Nadia Abdalla featuring conversations with influential figures across the African continent. In each episode, Abdalla aims to empower women while exploring social barriers for creating a more inclusive world.
Partnering with Devex and True My Voice as part of the Escape the Neglect series, Abdalla turns the conversation to NTDs. Together with her special guest, Ruby Valentina Atieno Mwalim — a dedicated clinical officer with over 10 years of experience in the medical field — they discuss firsthand experiences with NTDs; common challenges such as stigma and health care access; ways storytelling, social media, and community engagement can improve awareness; and policies needed to support affected individuals and health care workers on the ground.
Watch the video, filmed in English and Swahili, to listen to their discussion.
