MDG 4: Reduce child mortality

Training more birth attendants helps reduce child mortality rate — one of the Millennium Development Goals — in rural areas in Papua New Guinea. A high-level panel appointed to flesh out the post-MDG agenda will meet at the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York next week.

With Australian support, more birth attendants are being trained in rural and remote parts of Papua New Guinea, helping to reduce infant deaths.
