Humanitarian organizations need to urgently move from a reactive to proactive approach to dealing with crises, according to Christina Bennett, CEO of Start Network. Comprising more than 80 local, national, and international organizations across five continents, Start Network aims to transform humanitarian response through innovation, new forms of financing, and locally led action.
Speaking to Devex from the sidelines of the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Bennett explained why locally led anticipatory action is one of the key ways forward to tackle the impacts of the climate crisis. “Anticipatory action does lead to less suffering, does lead to more efficient working, and does lead to more appropriate responses in a crisis,” said Bennett.
