In an effort to push climate action in the Asia and the Pacific region, the Asian Development Bank released a report analyzing the climate data that its member states are collecting to assess development trends and progress.
ADB is among the largest multilateral development banks in the world and has committed to becoming a “climate bank.” ADB held an online event to mark the report’s release where experts said that improved data is critical for a just transition, as countries navigate increasing climate impacts while trying to balance their commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals.
The “Data for Climate Action” report covers 29 ADB member economies that responded to ADB’s request out of its 49 member countries. At this point only 17 countries are collecting climate data in some form, the report found, and the granularity of this data varies from country to country.
