The ‘precarious’ state of global food security

Since the global food price crisis in 2008, how has the world progressed in ensuring everyone gets adequate food? Devex President Raj Kumar speaks with Concern Worldwide CEO Tom Arnold at the 2012 European Development Days in Brussels.

Talks around food security have become more intense following the global food price crisis in 2008. Since then, how has the world progressed in ensuring everyone gets adequate food?

The situation remains “precarious,” Tom Arnold, CEO of Concern Worldwide, told Devex President Raj Kumar on the sidelines of the 2012 European Development Days, noting how, like four years earlier, we are again seeing dramatic food price increases.

In this conversation, Arnold also talked about the unique focus of the Scaling Up Nutrition movement, how international nongovernmental organizations are evolving and where he sees his own organization heading toward in 10-15 years.

An official media partner of EDD12, Devex was in Brussels to talk with the movers and shakers in international development. We video-taped conversations with more than 50 decision makers and thought leaders from the private, nonprofit and public sectors on hot-button issues in humanitarian relief, global health, social responsibility and international development.
